  • What is "Freestyle" karate?

We have a modern, welcoming approach to training whilst honouring the traditional values of karate. We have a blend of styles and can adapt to suit the individual training needs.

  • What does a typical session include?

We have a number of different instructors, all of whom are experienced martial artists who approach sessions in a different manner. We believe this gives a variety of styles to training. As such, there is not a formal format.

Sessions will always start with a warm up and end with some exercise and a warm down. The bulk of the session will include learning techniques and combinations, kata, self-defence and kumite (controlled sparring).

How do I achieve the next belt?

Students are selected for grading when they have shown enough development from their current belt. There is no formal timescale as each person develops and learns differently however, Kyu gradings (coloured belts) are usually every 4 months. Dan Grading is bi-annually.

Grading consists of demonstrating techniques, combinations, pressure points, self-defence, kata and controlled kumite (sparring). There is nothing different in a grading to what is covered in the sessions.

    Can I take part?

Absolutely. We have students of all ages (from age 5+ for insurance purposes) and abilities. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive club for all.

The only attribute you need is a willingness to learn.

  • Is there a discount for family members?
