                          Hello and Welcome
My Name is Ray Grey ,I'm Married and have been for over 30 years I live in Lancing West Sussex .I started my Karate Training with Ty'Ga Karate on a Outdoor session with Tyga Karate ,later in life then some of the other students/instructors i have trained with over the years .But I felt .Karate was  something  i would enjoy and now years later I have my own club and am enjoying teaching others ,and my students are benefiting  from my experience with other clubs/instructors  i have trained with over the years .

.After training with Tyga for a few yearsand  progressing through the grades  ,I had an emergency operation(see below for more details) so for a while i was unable to train ,but a 3 months break due to the operation I  was back training again ,and really missed the buzz .I did take things easy at first before getting back to how I wanted to train and felt students should train.
After being back for awhile my Instructor decided to leave Ty'Ga and start up his own club within the area he had previoulsy trained ,So he started SKF and  i decided to leave ty'ga and join him at his new club,
.After awhile the new club was up and running with nearly all the students who had trained with him when we were Tyga Karate, like I state later on in this paragraph students left due to the name of the Instructor.
After training for a couple of years I was selected for my
FIRST DAN which was a great achievement after what i had been through over the past two years .In Octorber 2002 after over 3 hours training ,including taking part in part of the Kyu grading  I gained my First Dan .I thought it was hard work ,,and with a lot of help from fellow students(exspecially Craig who no longer trains) . Then two years later(2004  I was selected to grade for my  2nd Dan(nidan) and felt pleased to be presented with it after a grading which due to the years of training felt easier than my 1st Dan ..Also in 2004  myself and Paul (cki) opened up a Saturday session under SKF /CKI which proved successful ,and still is .
After a while my Instructor decided to uproot and  moved to Australia  .This is when I started to see things differently with certain aspects of both training and Instructors who had been given clubs to run when he left .No disrespect to those chosen .
After a while ,,there were many changes happening and I did agree with some and reasons behind them ,Plus one or two starting to get Ego and other getting involved . So after some considerationand and  speaking with my wife; i decided to leave the club and start up my own Karate club under my rules .My decision to leave had mixed reactions  those who i felt were friends did show it .Plus i didnt even get a  reply from the Chief Instructor  which surprised me and at the time  disapointed me ,but that proved that when you stop paying SUBS ETC the person incharge forgets about you .The Club had  played a big part of my karate  life for well over seven years and i had always given 100% when ever i trained or attended events .. I am and always will be thankful for the friends i made and wish them all the best in whatever they achieve. I would have thought a GOOD LUCK from someone you had know for a few years would not had hurt .Proves my point .

  New Start -New Club
So  in
2006 I started my OWN club ,with my rules ,my views, making sure that every student who trained with LFK did so for the right reason .So in July LANCING FREESTYLE KARATE was BORN ,based in south lancing west sussex .What was a great compliment to myself was , all the students i had been teaching decided to join me,which proves the had respect for my teaching; and not for a CLUB NAME or an; INSTRUCTOR who some had never met.,and who only turned up for gradings . .Although the club is new the Saturday session has been going since 2004 and is growing fast. One; important thing is that i am to be addressed as Sensei at al LFK Events ,and Ray at all other times ,you find ego people like to be address sensie or whatever inside and outside (WHY ITS A HOBBY) . As mentioned no EGO and thats how its should be.
The Future of L.F.K
I am a great; believer that KARATE is best learnt in a friendly atmosphere without any egos, bullies, politics or force promises ,and this is how; i intend to teach Karate .I also believe that Karate can help improve your Fitness ,Flexability ,Stamina and General well being ,it will also improve your co ordernation and treach you respect towards each other and help your disclipline .One thing to remember is it is a HOBBY to the majority of people ,but to some its LIFE or Death .Your family and friends are just as important ,if not more inportant than your training ,or should be .This club will become succesful with the help of fellow students ,family and friends ,its just a shame other clubs have different attitudes towards training and what Karate means .The most important thing to remember is
YOUR PAY TO TRAIN -NOT TRAIN TO PAY
Health Issues
On May 4th 2000 I underwent; a double Heart Bypass operation at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton .After a short while resting I had become bored and wanted to start back training ,but I was told to wait for a few more months .So Three months later i was back training ,taking things easy at first with no contact or sparring during the first month ,then i was back to what i was before ,sparring as if nothing had happened to me .Still in the back of my mind i knew i had to be careful and not do anything stupid . In 2004 I had a Knee Operation which sidelined me for a few weeks ,i had some Cartlidge removed which was causing problems during my training .When i returned after awhile i was back to full training and proving that whatever life problems are you can always survive if you want to ,even after a life threatning operation .Live life to the full ,you only get one CHANCE.
; Cobra Martial Arts
Lancing freestyle Karate are proud members of COBRA MARTIAL ARTS ASSOCIATION based in Manchester and Founded by Andrew Morrell 6th Dan and England Team Manager /Coach. We are greatful for the support and know that any problems, they are on the end of a phone .Having met Andrew at my 3rd Dan Grading(see below) I knew i had made the right choice to not only join Cobra but leave my previous club .I just wished i had made a decision a lot earlier than i did ,because you are appreciated and respected for what you do not who you are .A club with no EGO and its KARATE first and foremost ,money is mentioned later; .I can now see why so many clubs join Cobra . In March 2007 i went to Manchester to obtain my 3rd Dan Grading which was a chance to meet Andrew Morrell president of Cobra Martial Arts Asscociation .Andrew presented me with my 3RD Dan and it was nice to be part of a big organisation which had respect for all Instuctors and Students illrespective of age or grad
