Hi my name is Ray Grey and I am the Founder and Chief Instructor of Lancing Freestyle Karate
.
I will tell you all  how i started Karate ,who i trained with ,my health and what is happening
now days

I am Married and live locally in Lancing West Sussex .I started my Karate training in 1999 with
Tyga Karate on a Friday evening at an Outdoor session .After training with Tyga for a few
years and progressing through the grades .I started to get chest pains when i was using the
gym ,so i had to see a specialist who refereed me to goring hall .After
having a  check up i was
told  i needed a
to undergo a  Heart Bypass Operation,So in May 2000 I had  a Double Heart
Bypass Operation
and thankfully it was successful with not major concerns .I  did not train
for 3 months
due to the operation and had the full support of fellow students and my chief
instructor at the time
.The 3 months break was hell as I missing  training . I started back
slowly ,only doing what i could without any Kumite or Ippon  training.A few months after my
return my club instructor informed us he was leaving Tyga and starting up his own club using
the dojos used by Tyga . So Skf was born later to become
CKI training with Skf i was nominated
to go for my 1st Dan which was a great achievement after what i had been through a few years
back .So in October 2002 i passed my 1st Dan
with a lot of assistance from a great friend(Craig)
who kept me going to ensure i passed with a few quiet words ??. I began to understand that 1st
Dan was only the begin of my training and wanted to improve even more. So in
2004 myself
and Paul Franks started up a Saturday club
at Lancing Youth Centre Penhill Road using the
art Centre at first until changing to the centre a few years later.

Later on  in 2004  i was awarded my 2nd Dan and  shortly afterwards  my  Club Instructor
informed us he was emigrating to Australia and would return every so often to take gradings
,something which started to happen
as a novelty but sadly didn't continue .And after awhile it
proved you can not run a successful club when your thousand of miles away .The club has
now changed hands  again
,proves my point. Some do it for the money ,others do it for
enjoyment ,and you have some who do it for the ego of being a martial artist .

So in 2006 i decided i needed a new challenge .I started my own club ,with my rules ,my views,
making sure that every student who trained with L.F.K did so for the right reason, without egos
or bullies ,.So in July 2006
Lancing Freestyle Karate  was Born ,based in south lancing west
Sussex .What was a great compliment to myself was
all the students i had been teaching
decided to join me,which proves the had respect for my teaching; and not for a Club Name or
an Instructor who some had never ever met.. .Although the club is new the Saturday session
has been going since 2004 and is growing fast.

Unlike some instructors ,i am to be addressed as Sensei at all L.f.k Events ,and Ray at all other
times ,you find people with ego's like to be addressed Sensei or whatever inside and outside
(Why its a Hobby ). As mentioned no Ego's and thats how its should be.

I am a great; believer that Karate is best learnt in a friendly atmosphere ,and not to get student
involved in the politics
and i will never give them  force promises or take any insults or abuse
from them ,
and this is how; i intend to teach Karate .I also believe that Karate can help improve
your Fitness ,Flexibility ,Stamina and General well being ,it will also improve your co
ordination and teach you respect towards each other and help your discipline .One thing to
remember is it is a Hobby to the majority of people ,but to some its Life or Death .Your family
and friends are just as important ,if not more important than your training ,or should be .This
club will become successful with the help of fellow students ,family and friends ,its just a
shame other clubs have different attitudes towards training and what Karate means .The most
important thing to remember is You pay to train ,not train to pay

We are proud to be part of Cobra Martial Arts Association  who president is Andrew Morrell
7th Dan .They are always willing to help if you ever need them ,i wish i had left skf.cki earlier
even thou i enjoyed my time with them ,i felt i was never going anywhere ,so the only choice
was to leave .
The club has now been going for 5 years as lfk and 7 years as a Saturday session and
numbers have grown since i started in 2006(lfk) so it proves i made the correct decision to
leave.
We have lost a few senior grades ,some i am sorry to see go others i am not ?.

Student come and Students go ,but its the ones who are loyal and stay to achieve their Goal
that will always have my respect .

Respect your instructor and your fellow
students
