| Georgie Berrystone 1st Dan Black Belt |
| At todays grading 13th April 2008 Seven students from Lancing Freestyle Karate were selected to grade at Lancing Youth Centre Penhil Road. This was a very important grading for Georgie Berrystone who would be attempting to grade to 1st DAN Black Belt .The grading was under the new structure of percentage marking ,with each student needing to get 65% or more to pass . The session prior to the grading was taken by Dave Bishop 1st Dan who did a great session .Then after a break Hannah Cogger took those grading on a warm up before the grading statred. All those selected performed to the best of their ability ,when performing ,Combinations ,Kata ,Partner Combinations ,Sets ,Self Defence ,Self Defence weapons and then Exercise including skipping at the end of a very hard grading. The grading was taken by myself and i was assisted by Pat Coady 2nd Dan .We both agreed that this grading students had performed to a better standard than prevously ,which i was very pleased with .Maybe the new grading structure ie % was better for them.At the end of the Kyu Grading they had all performed well and passed without problems .Some students even reached a +80% which was very high. Also&; Eamonn Ali who was grading for the first time did very well . After a short break it was time for Georgie Berrystone to take her 1st Dan Grading .Which consisted of Combinations ,6 Katas, 5 Sets ,Numerous Kicking and Punching techniques ,Plus Shield Work then 1m 30 secs of continuous punching Followed by Kumite ,before she had to do exercise plus 150 skips which she performed very well .Tiderness started to set in but , georgie proved that if you want something bad enough you pull out all the stops to get it .And she did just that ,i was proud of her today as i am all students associated with lfk. At the end she had passed with another 80+mark. Well done to all those who passed today ,and a Special congratulations to Georgie . Thank you also to Gerry Cogger for taking the photographs . |
